Hi! Thanks for your comment! In researching the detail for this blog, I had come across excerpts for Herminia Ibarra’s work, but I am yet to read the book – it’s certainly one I’ll be adding to my “To Read” list.
There are so many different varieties of this loop with a feeding forward and THEN feeding back design – in the interest of simplicity (and my word count) I’ve opted to focus on the original OODA loop with the four key points – but I agree that there’s so much more to this – the basic loop only scratches the surface!

Indeed the OODA loop is not new… it is as old as mankind (otherwise we wouldn’t be here). Even my Crucial Dialogue model is built on it’s foundation. This very foundation of the “OODA loop” and more of these loops (“PDCA” for instance) is the Creative Interchange process, discovered (not invented) by dr. Henry Nelson Wieman and updated by dr. Charles Leroy Palmgren.
