Ken Blanchard has been leading the charge for years for us to know the importance of “Results and Relationships”.

You are correct in stating that some jobs are not able to be performed remotely. However, the ones that can offer flexibility and mobility are desirable to many people. I am way far away from being a millennial. I am in my sixties. However, I love the flexibility that technology gives me. I can handle work from remote locations, I can be more productive, and I can take advantage of my creative “spurts” from any location. This allows me to travel, meet people, enjoy life, and develop new opportunities.

The companies that succeed in the future will be the ones that grasp the technology and productive of 2017 and beyond. If we are stuck in the old ways of the past, we will not survive.

A few years ago I stopped using the phrase “work-life balance” and started using “work-life harmony.” Work-life balance suggests you have to maintain a 50-50 balance between the two, but that just doesn’t fit today’s knowledge worker. Work-life harmony means the two blend together and you navigate between them seamlessly. There are seasons where work is more predominant and others where life is more predominant, but they work in harmony. We only have one life to live and our “work life” isn’t separate from our “life life.”

You hit the nail on the head. ‘I get my work done’. The concern might be that I see this impact only on my life or my work. If we step back we might see how my flexibility which suits my desires might not be the best for the team or the business because I am the center. We are all members, connected to one another and serve a role greater than our selves. This artificial connectedness will come at a price. Its good on the one side of the coin and injurious on the other. Not bad in and of itself………..
