Very well written question that restores my hope in the youngest generation. Welcome to the real world. You might try watching the US version of “The Office”, and look into the Grevalis thoughts on management. Take a read of Schopenhauer, and then dial down your own sense that you matter in the big picture. Take care of yourself, your family and dog and try to help the consultant and care for her too. Be a source of love and compassion for all around you. Many have known for years the king has no clothes, as far back as Aristotle, at least. Some don’t, and some can’t stand it, and others see this as opportunity. What matter most is how you respond to and live with reality, which you will see throughout your life, and tell you what kind of person you are.

Keep your head down and eventually other people will notice? That bucket wouldn’t carry water in my world. Seems to me that besides finding additional ways to tactfully point out that there are no results coming from the expenditure of time, energy and resources, why let something that is “wrong” continue unabated. For example, she might ask “the boss” about a timetable for results and say to him that she assumes he’s interested in the outcome of this marketing effort and investment and is there some point in the near future when they might see what’s happened? Or what’s next as a result? Any changes anticipated? I understand friendships and alliances that may be the reason for a relationship but there still has to be some obvious competency or it’s a joke to everyone, thus the emperor analogy. A joke to everyone but the emperor! And I would recommend she read Jesse Lyn Stoner’s piece about how to influence without authority, get in touch with her personal power and move forward.
