Right? I think there is this expectation that we are all going to go to work and crush it all day everyday. But in reality there are these cycles, and people go through really tough times in their personal lives that are going to affect them. Sigh.

Easier said than done I know, but whatever is going on – this is probably just not helping a whole ton.
Beyond that, Madeleine’s advice is spot on. If she can see that you’ve shut down the gossip, then hopefully she’ll open up to you and you can get some progress. Good luck.
